Quatrain II - "Autumn to Winter"

Do dead leaves rail when our sharp, mashing soles
Weld dust to vein, and stop earth in their holes?
What good is protest when voices are cut,
And Life's Long-shadow ensures they stay shut?

This little thing actually gave me more trouble than I had expected, but no matter - what do you think? The title gives a hint as to what I'm saying.

  1. I know you posted this a while back but I thought of this poem when I got up today. I just wanted to drop a comment that this would be great as a monologue for a character at the end of an epic movie. Something about the way the poem moves sounds so final, as if the events that took place within the movie were to prove that point.

  2. Thanks, aka! Yeah, "finality" was really what I was going for, so I guess it could work that way in a movie :).
